So in this post, I’m going to share 13 ChatGPT prompts that can actually help you become a better marketer.

For each one, we’ll explain what it is and why it’s important, share a prompt template you can use, and provide a real-world marketing example.

Here goes …

Table of Contents

#1: “Improve Your Prompts” Prompt

The ability to craft precise and effective prompts is essential for obtaining relevant and detailed information from language models.

By seeking feedback on prompt clarity and potential enhancements, you can refine your approach and optimize your interactions with ChatGPT, which saves you time and gets you better responses.

Prompt:

Review the following prompt I've created: [Your Prompt]. Provide feedback and suggest improvements.

Real World Marketing Example:

Review the following prompt I've created for a marketing campaign: 'How can I improve the results of my email marketing.' Provide feedback on its clarity and suggest improvements.

Pro Tip: you can also use the Audience Persona prompt to help refine your answers. Just tell GPT to “act as” or “act like” a CEO, marketing consultant, SEO expert, or whatever persona you’d like it to assume.

#2: “Write Like Me” Prompt

The “Write Like Me” prompt encourages the model to mimic your writing style, capturing your unique voice and tone.

By providing a sample of your writing, you guide the model to produce content that feels personal and genuine, ensuring that the final output resonates with your individual flair.

Prompt:

Write this [describe what you're writing, the tone, and the goal] in my voice. Here's a sample of my writing for reference [include sample].

Real World Marketing Example:

Write a persuasive article about the importance of sustainable energy in my voice. Here's a sample of my writing for reference: 'The dappled sunlight that filters through the canopy of trees reminds us of nature's gentle power. Each sunbeam is a testament to the energy that surrounds us, waiting to be harnessed.'

#3: Table of Contents Prompt

A Table of Contents can help you organize your content for users and search engines with an overview of the different sections and sub-sections of a document.

It helps readers navigate the content efficiently and understand the flow of information.

With this prompt, users can leverage ChatGPT to construct a well-structured table of contents, enhancing the readability and professionalism of their document.

Prompt:

Create a clickable table of contents in html for the following sections and sub-sections I provide. Arrange them in a logical order. [insert your content]

Real World Marketing Example:

Create a clickable html table of contents for the following sections and sub-sections: Chapter 1: Introduction - Background, Purpose; Chapter 2: Methodology - Data Collection, Analysis; Chapter 3: Results - Key Findings, Implications

#4: Table Prompt

This prompt is designed to help you convert plain textual data into a structured table format.

Organizing content into tables aids in your visualization and comprehension, especially when handling complex or comparative data.

By using this prompt, you can leverage ChatGPT to transform raw lists or data into a more digestible and presentable format.

Prompt:

Organize the following data into a clear table format: [List of data or content]. Describe the table layout.

or

Design a table for the following [specific use-case] using the information I provide. Make sure to highlight important elements.

Real World Marketing Example:

Organize the following data into a clear table format: "Names: John, Jane, Jake; Ages: 25, 30, 23; Occupation: Engineer, Doctor, Artist. Describe the table layout."

or

Design a table for tracking sales metrics using the information I provide: "Metrics: Units Sold, Revenue, Returns. Time Frame: January, February, March." Make sure to highlight important elements.

#5: Audience Persona Prompt

Audience Persona prompts are designed to help you tailor ChatGPT’s responses to specific target audiences.

By providing a detailed description of the intended audience, you can guide the model to produce answers that are more aligned with the knowledge level, interests, and context of that audience.

It’s a valuable technique for content creators, marketers, or anyone like you who needs a tailored response.

Prompt:

Explain X to me.

Assume that I am Persona Y.

Real World Marketing Example:

Explain how the regenerative AI works. Assume that I am a beginner on this topic.

#6: Cognitive Verifier Prompt

Cognitive Verifier prompts are designed to make ChatGPT think deeper and more analytically about the question you’re asking.

Instead of just giving you an immediate answer, it prompts the model to consider various sub-questions related to your main query, ensuring you receive a more tailored and comprehensive response.

This method mimics the way you might break down complex tasks into smaller, more manageable components to understand and solve them.

By prompting the model in this way, you can get a more precise and contextually relevant answer tailored to your specific circumstances or constraints.

Prompt:

When you are asked a question, follow these rules. Generate a number of additional questions that would help you more accurately answer the question. Combine the answers to the individual questions to produce the final answer to the overall question.

Real World Marketing Example:

When you're asked about optimizing a digital advertising strategy for our new organic skincare line, follow these rules:

Generate Additional Questions:

What are the primary demographics and psychographics of the potential buyers of organic skincare products?
Which digital platforms are most frequented by these potential buyers?
What are the current digital advertising trends in the organic skincare industry?
What's the allocated budget for this digital advertising strategy?
Are there any key messages or USPs for this skincare line that should be emphasized?
Combine the Answers:
Based on the answers to the above questions, produce a holistic and optimized digital advertising strategy for the organic skincare line.

#7: Question Refinement Prompt

Question refinement prompts are designed to enhance the quality and specificity of your marketing inquiries.

By prompting ChatGPT to reformulate or refine a given marketing question, you can get a more targeted and insightful answer.

It also educates you on how to phrase marketing questions effectively, enhancing your future interactions with the model.

Prompt:

From now on, whenever I ask a marketing question, suggest a better version of the question to use instead.

Real World Marketing Example:

Whenever I ask a question about increasing social media engagement, suggest a better version of the question that focuses on improving visual content strategy for Instagram to attract more user interaction. Ask me for the first marketing question to refine.

#8: Flipped Interaction Prompt

The Flipped Interaction prompt turns the tables, with the model asking you questions to gather necessary information.

This pattern is especially helpful when you may not know what details are required for a task or when you want a guided process.

ChatGPT uses the information you provide iteratively to reach the desired output.

Prompt:

Ask me questions about [specific topic or problem] until you have enough information to [desired output or solution]. When you have enough information, provide me with the [desired output or solution]. Ask me the first question.

Real World Marketing Example:

Ask me questions about my target market until you have enough information to create a detailed marketing strategy for my new eco-friendly product. When you have enough information, provide me with the marketing strategy. Ask me the first question.

Example:

  1. Assistant: “What age group does your product primarily cater to?” User: “18-35 years old.”
  2. Assistant: “What is the main unique selling proposition of your eco-friendly product?” User: “It’s made from 100% recycled materials and lasts twice as long as its non-recycled counterparts.”
  3. Assistant: “Where do your potential customers typically shop or get information?” User: “Online, particularly on social media platforms like Instagram and eco-friendly blogs.”
  4. Assistant: “Based on your answers, here’s a tailored marketing strategy: Target young adults on Instagram with ads showcasing the product’s durability and environmental benefits. Collaborate with eco-friendly blogs for product reviews and sponsored content.”

#9: Outline Expander Prompt

The Outline Expander prompt let’s you work within the constraints of the language model’s input/output size by creating a detailed bullet point outline.

As the model generates sections of the outline, you can select specific points for further expansion.

This process allows for iterative development of complex projects.

Prompt:

Act as an outline expander and generate a bullet point outline based on the input that I give you. Then ask me for which bullet point you should expand on. Create a new outline for the bullet point that I select. At the end, ask me for what bullet point to expand next. Ask me what to outline.

Real World Marketing Example:

Act as an outline expander. Generate a bullet point outline based on the input that I give you and then ask me for which bullet point you should expand on. Create a new outline for the bullet point that I select. At the end, ask me for what bullet point to expand next. Ask me for what to outline: Strategies for launching a new product.

Example:

  1. Assistant: “Sure, I’ll create an outline for ‘Strategies for launching a new product.’ Here’s what I’ve come up with:
    • Pre-launch market research
    • Creating a buzz through teaser campaigns
    • Crafting compelling product messaging
    • Leveraging influencer partnerships”
  2. Assistant: “Which bullet point would you like to expand on?” User: “Creating a buzz through teaser campaigns.”
  3. Assistant: “Great choice! Let me generate a more detailed outline for ‘Creating a buzz through teaser campaigns.’ Here’s what I have:
    • Teaser video creation
    • Social media countdowns
    • Exclusive sneak peeks for subscribers”
  4. Assistant: “What bullet point would you like to expand next?”

#10: ReAct Framework Prompt

The ReAct framework involves the AI reasoning through a process, understanding when it needs to consult an external tool or source.

This highlights the AI’s iterative decision-making ability, which is valuable in business/marketing scenarios.

By using “Action” steps, the model can potentially integrate with real-world databases or tools to fetch accurate data, aiding in more precise decision-making.

Prompt:

Think, [thought process to determine next step]. Action [specific tool or action required], [specific information or data]. Result, [hypothetical or actual outcome from the action].

Real World Marketing Example:

Determine the optimal budget allocation for our upcoming marketing campaign across Facebook, Google Ads, and Twitter.

Example:

  1. Think: “I need to analyze the ROI of our past campaigns on each platform. To determine this, I should access our company’s internal marketing dashboard.” Action: “dashboard_search, Past Campaign ROI Data.” Result: “Google Ads had a 4x ROI, Facebook a 3x ROI, and Twitter a 2x ROI in the last campaign.”
  2. Think: “Based on these results, I should allocate more to Google Ads due to its higher ROI. However, audience size and reach also matter. I need to check the user engagement stats for each platform from our past campaign.” Action: “dashboard_search, Platform Engagement Stats.” Result: “Google Ads reached 200,000 users, Facebook reached 150,000 users, and Twitter reached 50,000 users in the last campaign.”
  3. Think: “Given these engagement stats and ROI, I should distribute the budget favorably towards Google Ads, then Facebook, and allocate the least to Twitter.”

#11: Fact-Checking Prompts

This prompt instruction is designed to assist users in verifying the accuracy of information provided.

By generating a list of key facts at the designated position in the output, users can focus on these points to validate the overall correctness of the content.

This approach reduces the risk of unintentionally accepting misinformation by providing a clear guideline for verification.

Prompt:

Generate a set of facts that are contained in the output. The set of facts should be inserted at the end of the output. The set of facts should be the fundamental facts that could undermine the veracity of the output if any of them are incorrect.

Real World Marketing Example:

Provide a brief overview of generative AI. Generate a set of facts that are contained in the output. The set of facts should be inserted at the end of the output. The set of facts should be the fundamental facts that could undermine the veracity of the output if any of them are incorrect.

#12: Semantic Filter Prompts

Semantic filtering involves giving rules or guidelines to the AI model to remove certain types of information based on their meaning.

ChatGPT is capable of analyzing and understanding text in a way that can identify and remove specific types of information.

This is especially useful in cases where sensitive information, redundancies, or other specific content needs to be filtered out.

Prompt:

Filter this information to remove [whatever you want removed] and rewrite the text as little as possible to fix issues caused by the removals.

Real World Marketing Example:

Filter this information to remove all confidential client names and rewrite the text as little as possible to fix issues caused by the name removals.

#13: Chain of Thought Prompts

To improve the reasoning and outputs of large language models like ChatGPT, a technique known as “chain of thought prompting” can be applied.

Instead of merely asking the model a question, the technique involves explaining the reasoning behind each example provided and then asking the model to do the same.

By breaking down a problem into steps, guiding the model step-by-step through a solution, and emphasizing the reasoning before the final answer, users can extract better and more accurate responses.

Prompt:

Please help me understand and solve the following problems. Use the chain of thought prompting technique:

Problem/Scenario: [Your actual problem or scenario you want the model to solve]

Reasoning: [Leave this blank for the model to fill in]

Answer: [Leave this blank for the model to fill in]

Real World Marketing Example:

Please help me understand and solve the following problems. Use the chain of thought prompting technique:

Problem/Scenario: Determine the optimal frequency for sending promotional emails to maximize engagement and minimize unsubscribes.

Reasoning: [you fill this in]

Answer: [you fill this in]

Alright, let’s wrap this up.
